What is Gallagher’s Water?

Gallagher’s Water is the patented, original, all-natural equine hydration beverage. In a nutshell, it is a natural flavor enhancement powder mix – with electrolytes and trace minerals – designed to encourage horses to drink water. There are times when you need to quickly get fluids into your horse, and Gallagher’s Water helps make that task easier. With its alfalfa flavor, most horses are eager to try it. Once accustomed to it (or immediately, depending on the pickiness of your horse!), they eagerly drink up the contents of the bucket. How to Use Gallagher’s Water

• Fill a two-gallon bucket with water
• Pour contents of one packet into the water (if using a loose powder product such as No Sugar Added or the Farm and Ranch, use one scoop of powder per gallon of water)
• Stir until it is mixed and serve immediately

Tips and Suggestions

• To prevent dehydration in your horse, it is best if used daily.

How to Introduce Gallagher’s Water

Horses, like people, have their own preferences and reactions to something new. While many horses don’t think twice about drinking Gallagher’s Water the first time, others take a bit longer to get used to the idea. Here are some tips to keep in mind when you introduce it to your horse.

Pick an average day. You don’t want to try to interest them in something new when you’re in an emergency situation.

Avoid feeding time or turnout time so your horse isn’t distracted: you want a quiet atmosphere.

Mix a batch and hang it in their stall, giving them plenty of time to investigate. If you stand there or stare, they may be put off. Walk away. You may need to do this a few times. Always provide an additional bucket of plain water.

Some horses are initially confused. It smells like alfalfa, so they try to chew it. Eventually, they figure out to drink it. Don’t be surprised if they play in it!

If your horse is suspicious of the foam, try mixing it up by hand so it’s not frothy.

Once your horse accepts it, offer it regularly. This keeps your horse accustomed to the product so if you’re ever in an emergency situation, the horse will remember what it is. It will also keep your horse on a hydration program – a well-hydrated horse is less prone to colic.

Use the same bucket! Your horse will see the bucket and anticipate getting Gallagher’s Water.

Some horses that are never hand fed or fed out of buckets may not take to it at first, though we have seen success once given a second or third time.
